i just received a new intel g3258 processor and an asus h81m-r motherboard. everything worked fine, so i wanted to overclock. i also have the latest bios, version 0504. when i went into advanced mode and selected sync all cores, i entered 42 mhz, but after clicking enter it reset back to 32 mhz. i also can't find an option to adjust the voltage for overclocking. please help me.

Peero123 :
Update your mobo to the newest stable bios and give it another try.
I visited the site and installed the latest bios, version 0504, but it still wouldn’t work—it limited my overclock to 3,2 GHz, which is already my base clock. The option to adjust CPU voltage isn’t available on my bios.
I faced the same issue with another board; you should downgrade your bios, search for your motherboard name on Google, and find the first update mentioning "improved cpu compatibility" or similar. The release date should be around 2014, as overclocking on H81M boards is fixed in newer updates. To apply it, you’ll need to flash the changes using a USB stick.

Ensure your mobile is updated to the newest, stable BIOS versions and attempt the task once more.

Make sure your mobile is running the newest stable BIOS, and attempt again. I checked the site and updated it to version 0504, but it still doesn’t work—my overclock is capped at 3,2 GHz, which matches my base clock, and there’s no option to adjust the CPU voltage in the BIOS.

Peero123 shared their experience with updating the motherboard to the latest stable BIOS. They encountered an issue where their overclock was capped at 3,2 GHz despite using the base clock setting. The BIOS did not offer an option to adjust the CPU voltage. They also mentioned facing similar problems on another board, suggesting a need to downgrade the BIOS and search for updates mentioning improved CPU compatibility from 2014. A YouTube tutorial was recommended as a helpful guide, with instructions on flashing updates via USB and checking the BIOS settings for flash options. The user noted that their specific setup might require different steps, such as selecting the correct USB drive with the BIOS update before proceeding. They also pointed out that some boards may restrict overclocking even after updating.

After checking with Google, several others reported the same problem without a solution. It seems the board might not allow OCing. I recommend reaching out to ASUS.
