Issues with incorrect DNS and DHCP server details coming from the router.
Hello, Approximately half of your gadgets are getting incorrect DNS, DHCP, and Default Gateway from the server, preventing them from connecting to the internet. This issue affects your phone, laptop, and another PC via Ethernet. The proper settings should be 192.168.1.1 as displayed in the ipconfig on functioning devices, but on the non-working ones it’s set to 192.168.10.1. How can I resolve this and ensure they receive the correct information automatically? This started yesterday only. Thanks!
I just integrated several new devices into your network, responding to their DHCP requests.
Thanks for the update. Another suggestion was to check the MAC address using ARP and identify the manufacturer, which helped narrow it down. Despite that, problems remain. My response to the previous comment: I followed the advice and located the device. It appears to be a phone connected to the router. After disconnecting it fully and restarting my laptop, the IP stayed unchanged (192.168.10.1). The phone still can't connect to Wi-Fi after removing the manually assigned IP and DNS, and it reports "Failed to obtain IP address." Pinging 192.168.10.1 also fails. Later note: restarting the router resolved the issue.
Your connection uses a standard path: modem connects to router, which links to switch, and then to all devices. The specific modem and router models aren't mentioned, but they should support proper internet access even with incorrect client IPs.
I have set up the connection with a modem, followed by a router, then Ethernet to my PC, and Wi-Fi for my phone or laptop. The modem is a Netgear CM500.
Occasionally individuals purchase modems without understanding they received a bundled device (router/switch/AP). Have you attempted to disable as many connections as possible and observe if the incorrect IP addresses update? Is there an additional DHCP server operating elsewhere? Do you possess a spare router that remains powered and connected somewhere?
Restarted the router and everything functioned properly. The problem originally came from the device being installed improperly—connecting the cable to the LAN port instead of the internet port, which caused it to interfere with other devices.
Thank you for your assistance. The problem is now fixed, refer to my previous post.
