Hello! I acquired a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i equipped with an i7-12700H processor. I’m generally satisfied so far, but I’m experiencing heat, fan noise, and idle performance concerns. Here’s a bit of background: After installing a fresh Windows 11, I addressed some initial overheating issues by reapplying the case. Still, two main problems remain. First, when the laptop sits on the desk and the lid is closed, it becomes quite warm. The fan runs at low or medium speed, yet there’s noticeable heat buildup. It should be idle or in sleep mode, but that doesn’t happen. Opening the lid brings things down. Second, every core appears stuck at a high frequency with minimal or no activity. I took screenshots from HWMonitor while downloading a game via Epic Launcher. One core is hovering around 15% utilization, while others are near zero, yet all remain locked at very high clock speeds and temperatures. While the 3050ti can handle good temps when pushed, overall it feels excessively hot—even simple tasks like typing with just one Chrome tab cause my hands to warm up. I’m unsure what’s typical for a non-Mac laptop, but this definitely doesn’t seem right. This is part of several similar troubles I’ve faced trying to get a functional Windows machine. Help needed!

You might also want to check background tasks in Task Manager. From personal experience, antivirus scanning every five minutes even though it follows a schedule or runs third-party software when it shouldn't or at startup. >>If yes, right-click the item in Task Manager > go to file location > create a new folder> move the executable there> and if you need to use it again, add a shortcut to the desktop. Be careful not to affect essential Windows processes. You could also compress the entire folder (.zip or .rar) if it still starts on its own.
