I'm not sure it's due to thermal pads or any other issues since the temperatures should remain high after reapplying heat. When I reapply heat, it returns to normal and after a week or two it goes back to throttling. It seems like the thermal paste might be sliding, causing hotspots on the die, especially because my GPU is mounted vertically.

Which adhesive are you applying? I’ve heard Arctic-MX4 tends to slide off, but I haven’t seen it move much in my laptop that sits upright or rests against my chest.

The Artic-MX4 works well with standard thermal paste. For vertical mounts, look for high-performance pastes designed to handle heat in those setups.

I used a noctua paste I found nearby and swapped out the thermal pads on my MSI Suprim 3080 within two days. Since then, temperatures on my card have stayed ideal.
