Hello. This is my initial post here, so please forgive if I ended up in the wrong section.
I’ve been using a laptop for three years with an Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.6GHz processor and a NVIDIA 960M GPU.
Recently, I’ve noticed some issues while playing League of Legends. The FPS is between 90 and 100, but it drops below 60 during team fights when there’s a lot going on on the screen. I always run the game at maximum settings. The problem seems to persist even when I lower all the settings to very low levels. I usually get 90-100 FPS and then it falls under 60 in team fights.
I checked the laptop’s temperature, which is around 80 degrees Celsius, which is on the higher side, but considering it’s a laptop, it shouldn’t be that bad.
Here’s a list of the steps I’ve tried to fix the issue:
- Reinstalled Windows
- Reinstalled League of Legends
- Reinstalled Intel and NVIDIA drivers
- Opened the laptop to clear dust (but didn’t apply thermal paste)
- Disabled full screen optimization
- Ran League as administrator
- Closed all other programs while playing
- Performed a clean boot
- Updated BIOS
- Ensured all drivers are up to date
I’ve also tried several more things.
I would really appreciate your help—I’m struggling to identify the problem.
I understand my laptop isn’t a high-end machine, but I don’t think it should have such issues with League of Legends.
Thank you for your time!

The computer should function without issues, though some parts are quite old. For a game like league, the important thing is achieving a frame rate above ~30-60, not the exact FPS. If your laptop is that outdated, it probably has a 60hz screen, so you won't notice any difference beyond that.

My display runs at 60hz, and it's accurate that I don't notice the difference between 90 fps and 70 fps. However, the issue becomes apparent when the frame rate drops below 60fps, to around 40-50 for a few seconds, which is quite noticeable. I attempted VSync and capped at 60, but even then, the FPS reductions are still visible.
