Hi, in the earlier discussion I considered several motherboard options from the B550 series. After reviewing the options—ROG Strix F-Gaming Wifi, E-Gaming, MSI B550 Tomahawk, and MSI Carbon WiFi—I’m focusing more on MSI Carbon or Tomahawk. I’ve noticed some Ethernet issues with the Asus B550 lineup, so I want to understand how severe those problems are. It isn't ASUS; most network interfaces rely on that Realtek 2.5G standard. Performance varies, and some driver updates are problematic. Two colleagues have faced issues with it. A simple fix would be to switch to the 1Gbps port instead of the 2.5G connection.
The Intel 2.5Gb/s Ethernet controller (I225-V) appears to be compatible with MSI's Realtek solutions. Using the ASUS e Gaming model with only the 2.5G port doesn't require any special configuration—Bios or software adjustments aren't necessary. Even when operating as a 1G port, some users report minor issues, so you might want to test it in your system and consider alternatives if problems persist.
They rely on MSI mobo's because their problems are there, with a second Ethernet port and they switched to that one. Avoid 2.5G LAN for now—stick to 1Gb or opt for a 10Gb PCI card if necessary. Most 2.5G NICs currently have issues. (Reference from a quick Reddit search.)
My friends both purchased the X570 Tomahawk and reported the same problem. There aren’t many 2.5G network cards available right now, that’s what I’m worried about. I’d like to share some positive updates, but from what I understand, 2.5G technology isn’t fully developed yet.
