My computer runs smoothly most of the time, but occasionally I face issues. I can't use more than two RAM sticks simultaneously (currently using two), or my system won't start even though fans are spinning and RGB lights up during boot. The RAM and motherboard displays aren't functioning correctly. The RGB effects are flickering sometimes—either one or two lights on for a brief moment, then switching off. The motherboard RGB is constantly cycling without control, despite using various apps to manage it. Random crashes occur occasionally (about every couple of weeks), and when they happen, the system attempts to restart but the DRAM LED stays illuminated, requiring manual power-off. My specifications are: CPU – Intel Core i7 -9700K, GPU – NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, Motherboard – ASUS ROG Strix Z390 -F Gaming, RAM – HyperX Fury 8GB at 2666MHz DDR4. I recently purchased this used unit in good condition in 2021 (the seller bought it in 2020). My auto-start applications are slower now than before, but I’m unsure if that’s related. The main concern is the DRAM issue, which has persisted for about a year. I want to resolve it. It operates perfectly when playing games, browsing, or coding, but becomes unstable when idle or under load. I’m seeking advice on how to fix this problem. Thanks! =)
It seems the memory might have issues. Did you run memtest without the other two tools? There’s a slight risk that a cooler shift could trigger memory channel problems due to mounting pressure. A 9700K should handle 4x 8GB sticks at 2666 MHz without issues, so hardware degradation is unlikely. The color issue likely points to a BIOS or software configuration problem rather than a physical fault. The crash is unusual since it freezes on DRAM—cleaning the contacts and re-seating them might help, especially if the system is dusty.
