Hey there, I have a question about my recent setup. After installing CSGO for the first time on this machine, I noticed very low performance. On an OC 7800x and OC 1080 Strix, FPS fluctuates wildly—sometimes dropping below 90. Even after applying patches, it still feels terrible. The PC is around 3300 euros, with a 144Hz monitor, so any drops are really noticeable. I’m not looking to fix it with hacks, and I suspect the graphics settings won’t improve much no matter how low I go. Any advice would be appreciated!

Your current temperatures, system usage, processor and graphics card speeds, and RAM activity throughout the game. Also, latest drivers have been updated.

Try to stabilize the frame rate. This should resolve the performance problems. Are you noticing noticeable slowdowns or stuttering while playing?

Looking for a comprehensive breakdown of PC parts. Also, confirming if it’s running in fullscreen or windowed mode—windowed settings sometimes lead to problems.

All players are current, the 7800x runs at a steady 4.7Ghz with water cooling keeping temperatures below 80°C. The 1080 OC is capped around 1900Mhz due to GPU Tweaks. My experience is playing in fullscreen on a 21:9 2560x1080 display. In CSGO, FPS is fixed at 300 and it doesn’t change, no matter what I do—it just ignores my input. The gameplay feels poor, and I can’t even mention “random” drops because they happen consistently every time.

Don't worry about time zones or perceived clock settings. Launch Msi Afterburner using OSD, then run the game to monitor your precise temperatures, clock rates, and system usage during gameplay or drops. Consider testing windowed fullscreen to find improvement.

If you wish to avoid assisting, just do it. FPS doesn't fall; it varies and isn't steady, making it invisible on afterburner. This image shows the GPU, CPU remains below 60°C, and CAM is active.

If no fluctuation appears during gameplay, it's fine. The method to fix FPS to 300 depends on your software or console settings—whether it's a system command or CS-specific instructions. Since CS now permits lower FPS limits since version 1.6, you can set it to 125 or 250 to avoid noticeable drops in the game. Locking below peak levels or near average values tends to reduce fluctuations.

Adjust the frame rate limit to around 150 FPS. You can choose 300, though I’m unsure if 1080 will maintain that consistently during your sessions. The CS:GO setting won’t lock at a specific frame rate—it will cap it at a maximum value and stop you from going higher. I’ve managed 4K at a steady 120 FPS with my 1070, but I don’t know your typical display size. Also, I noticed that pushing the higher max FPS can cause more noticeable drops in performance.

The game runs smoothly at 300+ FPS with this setup. I prefer not to cap it below that level. Setting fps_max to 150 still works but causes a noticeable drop in performance. The issue becomes more apparent on a 144Hz display.
