I'm working on assembling a new computer and facing some memory issues. During Windows installation, the system kept failing. I found that one of the two memory modules was faulty—Memtest showed hundreds of errors right away. I checked each stick separately and only one failed completely, allowing me to install Windows using just the good module. I also tested both modules in both slots, confirming the same bad stick every time. I returned the defective memory and received a replacement. The new memory is now causing the same problems: it generates errors instantly during Memtest while the other works fine. I'm wondering if others have experienced this with Corsair Vengeance DDR5? Could there be another factor at play, like a motherboard issue or environmental factors? It's hard to believe both sticks could be so unreliable and pass basic testing. My build includes an Intel Core i5-13600K, GIGABYTE Z790 UD AC, and several high-end components. I'm considering whether the motherboard might be the culprit or if I should switch to a different memory brand.

I owned a single unit of Vengeance DDR5 a while back, and it performed perfectly. From my perspective, it was a rather poor RAM build, mainly because I was pushing it to overclock and it came from a 5200 CL40 model—so I doubt I could really expect much improvement. It still supported DDR5 7000, but the clock speeds were limited to CL36 and its achievable timings were at best average. Of course, this is based on just one example, which isn't very representative, but I haven’t noticed any similar issues reported. It seems more probable you received two units that were dead, though that’s highly unlikely.

The slot on the MB might be faulty, leading to unreliable memory outputs.

PSU voltages appear normal. The resulting memory controller voltages seem acceptable. It doesn’t quite match the rest of the puzzle perfectly—perhaps any irregularities should be isolated from the modules—but it could be an external factor worth investigating.

The issue pertains to the specific memory module. I'm following the manufacturer's guidance for using slots A2 and B2 in the MB. Module 1 works if installed in either slot A2 or B2, but Module 2 fails regardless of the slot. If a MB slot is faulty, Module 1 should also fail when connected to the problematic port.

Maybe so. Still unsure why it impacts just one module. I haven’t adjusted any power settings—everything comes with factory defaults. All components are brand new, including the MB and PSU.

It turns out I was pretty unlucky twice, but maybe the third try worked out! After returning the second batch of faulty RAM, the third set looked good. To be sure, I checked each DIMM separately in both A2 and B2 slots on the motherboard, then ran a final test with all five units installed. Every test passed, and the system is running smoothly. Relieved and thrilled to finally use my first new computer in over ten years!

I faced the same issue with my CL36 5600 2x16GB vengance kit after testing various settings and combinations. Eventually, I realized one of the RAM sticks might be defective. The challenge is compounded because I ordered through a third-party shipping service (since Amazon isn't available in my country), and returning it would cost more than purchasing a new kit. I’m just hoping the replacement will be reliable. Hope this helps!
