Hello, I'm experiencing difficulties maintaining stable FPS in CS:GO lately and often face unexpected drops. I've been playing at 1080p with all settings fully enabled, disabling only VSync, blur, and anti-aliasing, and achieving around 180–220 FPS without noticeable fluctuations. Recently, my performance jumped wildly between 64 and 234 FPS, then suddenly fell to as low as 70 FPS. I attempted to cap the FPS using fps_max, then tried RivaTuner with settings like 160 or 140 FPS, but results remained inconsistent. My hardware specs include an Intel i5-4670K CPU, GTX 760 GPU, and a 8GB RAM system on a 60Hz monitor. I plan to upgrade my cooler and eventually overclock the CPU, but I've kept FPS uncapped in Classic Offensive without issues. I'm concerned that even limiting FPS to 60 might still cause instability. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Track every part of your equipment's activity to identify why frame rates drop—think it’s not just the processor.

Update all drivers first, then connect to the HW monitor or use the MSI afterburner.

You're in CSGO, wondering what Valve can do with your request.

The source engine seems likely the cause. It’s tough to find anything source-friendly that keeps the CPU at 60% or higher on my Q6600, which results in smooth frame rates.

I used to run Chrome open in the background (being a tab hoarder), but I didn’t notice any major performance drops. Now, whenever I see smoke or three players in-game, the FPS just halves. I’ve had several problems with Source engine games over the years, but nothing like this.
