Hello everyone,
I’m facing occasional BSODs on my newly assembled system and am seeking advice or understanding about possible causes. At this stage, I suspect the problem may be linked to the memory module, but I’d appreciate any guidance on testing or troubleshooting steps.

Here’s a summary of what I’ve tried:
System Details:
- Motherboard: MSI MPG X870E Carbon Wifi
- CPU: Ryzen 9 9950X3D
- RAM: Corsair Dominator Titanium 96GB (CMP96GX5M2B6800C40)
- Notes: The product is on the Qualified Vendor List and validated for AXMP profiles at 6800 and 7000 MT/s.

Boot Drive: Corsair MP700 Pro SE 4TB PCIe Gen 5 NVMe
GPU: Nvidia RTX 3090 Founders Edition

Problem Symptoms:
Random BSODs with error codes such as SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.
When testing RAM at AXMP Profile 2 (7000 MT/s), I saw BSODs several times daily. After switching to AXMP Profile 1 (6800 MT/s), the occurrence dropped noticeably—about once every few days—but the issue remains unresolved.

Testing Actions:
- MemTest and stress tests with y-cruncher completed successfully, showing no memory errors.
- Changed AXMP profiles from 7000 to 6800 MHz.
- Updated BIOS to the latest version (7E49v1A3).

Community Questions:
- Could the problem stem from the RAM kit itself, or might another part—such as motherboard BIOS settings or CPU compatibility—be responsible?
- Are there any recommended BIOS or UEFI adjustments that could stabilize this setup? I’m not very comfortable tweaking memory timings or voltages, so any guidance would be valuable.

Extra Testing:
Besides MemTest and y-cruncher, what diagnostic tools or checks would help narrow down the cause?

Refund/Replacement Consideration:
I’m still within the 30-day return period, so I’d like to figure out a solution before deciding on a refund or getting another RAM kit. Any tips, advice, or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. I want to avoid further instability as I move into more demanding tasks.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Great job achieving your 9950X3D at 7,000MT/s. I'm not sure if this is typical or unusual, but the highest frequency listed in CPU World is 5,600MT/s. If you exceed that, adjusting the EXPO settings might be necessary to keep the system stable. You might also consider reducing the CL/CAS timing by one or two cycles.

Check out the details here: https://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Zen/AMD-Ryzen 9 9950X3D.html

System components:
- Integrated peripherals / components
- Memory controller
- Memory channels (total): 2
- Supported memory: DDR5-5600
- ECC support: Yes

When I assembled my 7950X in 2023, fast RAM was too costly, so I opted for two 32GB Kingston Fury DIMMs running at 4,800MT/s. Even though prices have dropped, I don’t feel the need to upgrade my RAM. Programs like Adobe Premiere Pro see minimal benefit from faster RAM on AMD platforms, making it an unnecessary expense for me.

He should simply reduce his latencies and adjust the speed to 5600 and 6000 at their absolute limits. DDR5 tends to be more demanding for speeds above 6000 on AMD platforms, while Intel's situation is less clear-cut.

You have an XMP kit for an AMD platform, but this is usually problematic because XMP operates at 1.35V while EXPO (AM5 boards) typically runs at 1.4V (particularly with Corsair RAM). Even at 1.4V, achieving stable performance above 6200 MT/s with AMD CPUs, especially X3D chips, is challenging. I would attempt to set the RAM to 6400 and 1.4V to check stability. If that doesn't work, try 6200. If it remains unstable, consider 6000.

I also saw this, but I wanted to point out that this kit appears on the MSI compatibility list for the 9000 series Ryzen board. The AXMP profiles are already running it at 1.4v, and I’m currently at work—so I’ll check it out once I get home.

Despite being included in the supported list on MSI, these modules lack an EXPO profile and do not indicate any recommendation for AMD use in the product details provided by Corsair or Newegg.

It's reasonable, thank you for your feedback. I initially thought the QVL List entry under Memory by 9XX indicated stable performance on those profiles. I located the relevant article from corsair and confirmed it mentions that memory typically functions as expected, using XMP data for timings and voltages. Usually, it shows proprietary names such as ASUS Enhanced Memory Profile or AXMP, but it does mention that full speed may not be achievable with AMD CPUs. Once I get home, I’ll adjust the settings and test running at 6400 and 1.4v to see how it performs. If necessary, I might consider buying a different kit, as this is my first experience with DDR5 and I wasn’t familiar with its compatibility issues.

The main distinctions between an EXPO and an XMP RAM kit lie in the values stored in the profile when you activate EXPO or XMP. AM5 performs less stably at higher clock speeds and demands more voltage than Intel, which is why the profiles are tailored to these conditions.

If you configure your RAM manually to match the EXPO settings, it should function properly even if the kit is intended for faster speeds (essentially downclocking). However, this approach might not be cost-effective because you’ve invested in a high-speed kit and would need to run it at lower speeds—such as 6400 or possibly 6200 MT/s.

Additionally, timing considerations are important. Restarting the BIOS to its default settings and immediately targeting 6400 MT/s could cause issues, especially if the default timing at 4800 MT/s is too restrictive for 6400. It’s often better to enable EXPO first and then adjust the clock speed accordingly. If stability is achieved at a lower speed, you can fine-tune the timing to reduce latency. For instance, at 6200 MT/s, running CL 32-39-39-102 should work smoothly.

Just an update for everyone, set the ram to the AXMP 1 Profile (6800Mhz at 1.4v) and then adjusted it down to 6600 Mhz, so far seems stable, haven't had any BSOD's yet. I'll give it a week and see if their are any more stability issues, and if not I plan to return this kit and get a 6600Mhz kit of Dominator Platinum's. Likely this kit CMP96GX5M2B6600C32, while this one technically isn't on the QVL, CMP96GX5M2B6600C32W is, the only difference appears to be the color of the DIMMs, Black vs White. And at that point, if I have issues, I will probably just return them and look for a kit of 6000 Mhz ram to just solve the problem, but going to try this first as 6600 has so far been stable on the current kit, and I'd save a little bit of money returning the 7000 Mhz kit.
Thank you to everyone for their help and suggestions, I'll post an update if I have any further issues, etc.
