The problem started when I launched Just Cause 2 and it stopped working immediately. I spent hours trying to fix it but gave up. There were several .mdmp crash files in the game folder, but I wasn’t sure how to open them. Recently, when I opened Tomb Raider for the first time due to a sale, the same issue occurred with those files. I’m thinking DirectX might be the problem or there could be a corrupt file, but that’s all I have. My system specs are: Windows 8.1, GTX 780, i7-4770K, 16GB RAM.

The issue appears in both long-standing and recently installed games.

Thanks for the responses. I plan to try a few more titles, but I've spotted something interesting in these two new releases right now—I'll follow up on that one later.

No progress yet; only these two recent titles seem affected. Updated the graphics drivers again but problems persist.

You've started working with the programs in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode, but you're still unsure about the issue. Someone could help identify what's happening now.
