Issues reported with the Ryzen 7 5800x and ROG Strix X570-I gaming motherboard.
Hi all, I'm facing some problems while upgrading the CPU in my PC. My current model is the Ryzen 5 3400G.
I chose to switch to the Ryzen 7 5800X, which seemed like the best compatible option according to PC Part Picker.
I also checked the AMD website and confirmed the motherboard is compatible.
It mentions that I need to update the BIOS, which I have already done using the latest version V5021.
However, when the new CPU is installed and the PC starts up, nothing appears.
I searched online for solutions and found some advice suggesting I reset the BIOS by jumping the CMOS or removing the CMOS battery—both tried but didn’t help.
Do you have any other options left? Could it be that Amazon sent me a faulty CPU?
I’ve replaced my old CPU, and everything else is still functioning, so I’m not sure what else to do besides considering a refund.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

It would be simplest to focus on the older PSU, though it’s a solid unit and I think there’s a 10-year warranty on it.
I didn’t search for your motherboard BIOS updates, but did any of them mention being a bridge BIOS or needing a specific installation sequence?
If you reinstall the old CPU, does it start up? If yes, you might want to reset the CMOS, try booting again to confirm it appears, and then replace the CPU.
I don’t have much to work with, and without a verified working setup to test against, things could get confusing.
I have an RTX 3060. With my previous CPU, do you have a display connected to the graphics card? (Make sure it's directly linked to the card, not the motherboard.) If you're using the latest BIOS and everything functions properly with the old CPU while connected to the graphics card, then upgrading shouldn't cause issues. You might want to check if the 5800x has any bent pins or thermal paste on the pins—something I experienced before and fixed by cleaning the pins with a coffee filter and alcohol.
It's very uncommon for a brand new CPU to be faulty. Did you purchase it new? Was it sold and shipped by Amazon?
Thanks, yes I own a 3060 and when connected to my monitor via the GPU with the old CPU installed it functions perfectly. The only problem arises when I install the new CPU. I'll examine it more closely once I have it. It was brand new, sold and shipped by Amazon.
I'll look for a bridge BIOS update. Just like when I updated my BIOS, I went for the newest version right away. I didn't think about needing an older one first. That's a nice move.
The computer starts up and works fine with the previous CPU. There are no power supply problems or other components failing.
