Issues encountered with Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme and Ryzen 7 5800X3D experiencing boot loops
Hello Everyone, I'm working with a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme revision 1.0 with BIOS F38 released in March 2024. My setup includes Crucial Ballistix DDR4 3600 Mhz CL16 2 x 16GB RAM, AMD Radeon 7900XTX, Corsair RM850 PSU, and a Ryzen 9 3900X. I previously used a Ryzen 7 5800X3D for better gaming performance, but after switching CPUs it kept looping with a 4F code and other codes. I changed RAM slots, used just one stick, cleared CMOS, but the issue persisted. The new motherboard seems to be working fine now. Any suggestions on what might have caused this problem on the original board?
Did you remove the CMOS before putting in the CPU? I noticed you did after a few attempts, though it wasn’t mentioned beforehand. The Gigabyte listing shows it’s marked as Reserved, which is helpful for their side. Was there a secondary BIOS switch at the bottom right that you attempted? It likely needs flashing to work with the 5800X3D, but your 3900X should boot into it.
Hello, execute F36A while inserting the 5800X3D. Apply USB flashback (Q-Flash). Ensure RAM is placed in slots A2 and B2. Refer to the manual at the provided link. Use the USB port labeled BIOS.
It seems the system originally had dual BIOS support but encountered an issue during boot, switching from the main to a secondary BIOS. The flashing was done for compatibility with the 5800x3D chip. You're asking why a newer BIOS version is being recommended instead of the more recent one.
Occasionally bios updates need to happen gradually. F36A serves as an initial reference for 5800x3D, and after that you can proceed to newer versions. These changes can sometimes behave unexpectedly.
