Hey there, I’m looking for some guidance. I purchased a 2x8GB AVAXIR Core 2DX 3200MHz kit last year and managed to run RAM at that speed without any issues. But recently I started seeing error codes linked to faulty RAM. I ran MemTest86 and HCI MemTest, checking each stick individually. At 3200MHz everything seemed fine—no errors. However, when I tested both sticks together, errors appeared specifically around test number 8. After that, I tried running HCI MemTest at a lower speed (around 3133MHz). That speed still showed errors in MemTest86, but not in HCI MemTest until about 400-450%. I also noticed BSODs at this lower speed and a persistent error at 3066MHz. My motherboard is the B450 Steel model, and I’ve updated the BIOS already, though I haven’t overclocked yet. The RAM slots are working fine. My question is: has my CPU started to fail? Or is the RAM itself degraded and no longer stable at that speed? I’m not sure if it’s possible for RAM to lose performance even though it was rated for it. Please help me out.

The memory controllers in the 1000 and 2000 series Ryzen chips aren't the top choice. Overclocking or using XMP settings (like DOCP for ASUS) can be difficult since these parts usually perform poorly. The safest option is to set the system to run at its highest stable frequency, which is 2933MHz.

I understand this concern. Based on your recent update, the problem began about 4-5 days ago and doesn’t seem connected to the memory controllers in the R5 2600.

It might simply be wear from operating at 3200MHz over time. In my view, this issue seems connected to the memory controllers.

Overclocks aren't a certainty and are generally not included in warranty returns because the device should function properly at its rated frequency, such as 2933MHz. You might still attempt to request an RMA from AMD for the chip, though they could refuse.
