Issue with Windows 8 setup or performance.
Hi everyone, I'm dealing with a Dell XPS 12 running Windows 8. It's been working fine for over a year until today when something strange happened. I can't reach any files—just folders work, but not the actual files. The browser won't open, setup or games fail to launch, and they briefly appear in the taskbar before closing. I can still access my computer, control panel, and folders. What might be causing this? It's urgent because I need those word files for exams coming up this weekend. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Consider checking Safe Mode to determine if the problems continue. Also, verify whether Norton is installed on your system. I've encountered this issue multiple times—Norton often blocks explorer.exe. Using the Norton Removal Tool clears the interference and restores functionality.
Check if your C drive has no available space. Running it down to nearly zero means the system won't function properly.
Malware has infected your computer. If the task manager fails and programs shut down right after launching, it indicates automatic closure. Restore Windows by reinstalling it. If you have another machine, connect the laptop drive to that system, perform a virus scan and malwarebytes, then proceed with backup. After confirming everything is clean, restore your data and bring the HDD back to the laptop for a fresh installation.
