I've played the game for over 100 hours and enjoyed it, but I faced a bothersome issue. Outdoors I maintain around 60 frames per second, yet indoors I notice sudden drops to about 40 FPS, then cap at roughly 29.9. When I switch directions, it jumps back up to 60 FPS. This inconsistent performance is quite frustrating. The problem is especially visible inside the institute—initially I suspected an AMD driver issue, but a forum member with a GTX 980 reported the same thing. Lowering graphics settings helped temporarily, but keeping the cap at 60 didn’t fix it. Disabling in-game vsync while maintaining the cap resolved the issue and kept my FPS above 57 consistently. However, screen tearing still makes gameplay difficult. I attempted advanced settings like forcing vsync, triple buffering, and D3Doverrider, but they only reduced tearing slightly. The RadeonPro and D3Doverrider options didn’t eliminate the problem. I also tried dynamic vsync in Radeon Pro, which helped a bit. I installed a fog removal mod without improvement. I recall encountering a similar problem with AC Black Flag, which I resolved using D3Doverrider’s techniques. The vsync in Fallout 4 is particularly annoying. Anyone else experiencing this? Are there solutions other than purchasing a free monitor? My system specs: i5 6600K, Asus R9 390, 8 GB RAM, Windows 10 64-bit.

Vsync offers limited benefits for reducing screen tearing. Alternatives like Freesync and Gsync provide better performance. Achieving consistent 16.7 ms frames is challenging, especially in demanding games such as Fallout 4. The game's high CPU usage and fluctuating frame times often disrupt Vsync functionality. The best solution appears to be using a monitor capable of refreshing dynamically.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems the VSYNC in FO4 is quite problematic, especially when using third-party software. Forcing triple buffering and VSYNC didn't yield the same results as with AC Black Flag. Maybe it's worth considering a more affordable alternative like Freesync.
