Hi, I'm new to hardware repairs. The trackpad isn't clicking properly. From what I've learned so far, it's likely due to dust or food particles obstructing the trackpad from touching the button. But I suspect there might be another problem. The trackpad stays in constant contact with the button and doesn't release, so when the laptop is upright, the button is already pressed. Only when I flip the laptop upside down does gravity move the trackpad away, allowing it to click correctly. I'm wondering if someone can help me understand how these trackpads are meant to function. Is there a mechanism like an electromagnet that normally keeps the trackpad away from the button? Please check out these photos:

The first image shows a gap between the trackpad and the button, while the second shows the laptop upside down with my finger pressing the button to click. Thanks in advance for any advice! 🙏

Right away, it seems the metal tool used for the button might be making contact with the solder joints on the base circuit board. I’m not certain about the wiring or connections, but if the laptop trackpad was active, it could have caused a short circuit or disrupted a capacitor. Regarding the button, the metal strip could be worn out and failing to maintain proper contact. My idea is that this strip might be replaceable by taking off the screws at each end. I’m also not ruling out any issues with the button itself. These are just my observations.
