Hello everyone. I've recently begun playing TF2 again and encountered some unusual FPS issues. It often drops to around 45fps during intense gameplay. My PC seems capable of handling it smoothly at 60fps or higher, but my CPU and GPU usage never exceed 70%, while the graphics card operates near its maximum clock speed of about 80% despite the low FPS. Please assist!

PC Specs: CPU - AMD Phenom II 955 3.5GHz GPU - Radeon r7 260x 1225Mhz Core, 1675MHz Memory RAM - 4Gb 1333Mhz

Consider reinstalling the GPU driver. Also, are you using MSAA? If yes, reduce or disable it. Try the alternative method next.

I didn't use MSAA and I just installed the latest drivers. The issue is that the GPU is operating at around 70% speed while I'm experiencing low frame rates.

Welcome to Team Fortress 2. For optimal performance, use DirectX 8.0/1 and turn off mat_phong. To disable mat_phong, launch the game with the -dxlevel 80/81 option in Steam’s launch settings; otherwise, set it to 0 inside the game. Mat_phong 0 noticeably improves frame rates, as seen with Suijin maintaining over 60 FPS at 1080p without anti-aliasing. -dxlevel 80/81 offers some benefit but isn’t as strong. Keep in mind you can’t run Competitive mode with this setting enabled. Updated January 25, 2017 by Dan Castellaneta

You tried high settings but struggled to reach 144 fps, only managing around 110 outside. Consider following the advice given.

It's really frustrating, but opening Task Manager while playing TF2 and making the executable run with high priority has worked for me. Odd, but it helps.

I've tested almost everything. The biggest issue is that lowering the settings causes the FPS to drop. It seems related to the GPU's clock speed. I'm guessing making it constant will help.

I only run two maps, hehe. I tried it on 2fort. It was barely holding 144 on the turbine too.
