I put Pop_os on a client machine that I was repairing and everything functioned fine the previous week. However, when I tried to launch it yesterday, it only showed a terminal with Ubuntu displayed. I reinstalled Pop_os and it worked last night, but the issue resurfaced today. Assistance needed.

No, I didn't disable Secure Boot in the BIOS. That was just a guess.

They attempted to refresh the system using "apt update" followed by "apt upgrade." What graphics card model are they using? Has the user recently installed any new software?

They're running a GTX 1650 Ti. I tried the apt update but didn't complete the upgrade.

Ugh... Nvidia is really annoying. It was the main reason I struggled with Linux. They still have so many issues. I definitely don’t miss using a Nvidia GPU on Linux. AMD is way more straightforward—just plug and play. But yeah, try an apt upgrade and see if it helps. If not, check that the Nvidia drivers are installed by running lspci -nnk. Make sure the kernel driver is actually Nvidia; maybe a kernel update fixed it. It’s possible the driver was removed during an update and needs reinstalling. I don’t think the desktop environment can just disappear on its own. Probably something directly tied to Nvidia.
