Issue with SSD vanishing in Windows (ASUS TUF F16)
Hey everyone,
I just purchased an ASUS TUF F16, a really good laptop with solid performance for both work and gaming. It came with a 512GB NVMe SSD and an additional M.2 slot for another drive.
I already had a 256GB Netac NVMe SSD on hand, used it occasionally to test another computer, and it never caused any issues.
After installing the Netac SSD into the laptop's second M.2 slot, turning it on, and starting to use it, everything functioned properly.
The following day, when I powered on the laptop, the SSD disappeared from Windows and wasn't visible in Disk Manager either. After a restart, nothing remained.
I experimented with BIOS settings, enabled and disabled the Intel VMD controller, updated drivers, turned off power-saving features for the drive and PCIe, and even tried saving and exiting the BIOS without changes. The SSD reappeared then, but vanished again after another restart.
It seems the issue occurs when I enter BIOS and click save and exit—without any modifications—but disappears again on the next reboot.
I also noticed that sometimes, when the laptop sleeps and wakes up, it shows a blue screen with a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE error, and after restarting, the SSD is gone.
If anyone has suggestions or ideas, I'd really appreciate it. I've searched thoroughly, checked forums like GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, but couldn't find a solution.
I've faced a similar problem before with a customer's Dell notebook. She asked me to install an extra SSD, which I did, but it also disappeared. I tried installing Windows on the new SSD and leaving the main one for storage—it stopped disappearing. I'm thinking about doing the same on my own laptop as a backup plan.
TL;DR: I added an extra NVMe SSD to my laptop, but it keeps vanishing from Windows and Disk Manager. I've tried everything without success.
Maybe check if your computer needs a BIOS upgrade.
I already have a 256GB Netac NVMe SSD nearby.
Could you share a link to the SSD you’re using? Does it come with an operating system pre-installed?
Hi! I just updated to the newest BIOS version, but I didn't mention that. The 256GB SSD is here: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mttgxEH. It doesn't come with an operating system installed.

These are a low-quality brand, not what you expected from a 22USD drive. The main issue is the problem, as it's also present on another site.
recognizing it's not an excellent brand, yet it functions adequately on its own, the same problem appeared with another laptop and another SSD completely... I was using Netac in a desktop. It's unclear if the drive is the cause, because it still worked. I installed games on it and played without issues.
