Hi everyone, I'm facing a problem when trying to boot my PC to Windows after the recent upgrade. My system keeps launching into BIOS and in the boot settings, the SSD isn't listed as a priority. I have a Ryzen 7 5800X, an MSI B550 motherboard, two 8GB DDR4 RAM sticks at 3200MHz, an external Samsung 860 Evo SSD, a MSI RTX 2070 Super, and a Corsair 750x power supply. Even though the motherboard is brand new and my CPU and PSU are in good condition, I'm struggling to get the SSD recognized as a boot priority. I've tried checking cables, swapping ports, removing the hard drive, using a USB to test connectivity, but it still shows up normally. I've also verified the system status, which says the SSD is on SATA 6, changed the BIOS mode to UEFI, and considered updating the BIOS, though I wasn't sure if that would help since it's a new board. It mentions the BIOS build date as 08/11/2022—any idea if that could be useful?
Did you set up the operating system using the latest motherboard?
If it boots from a USB, the SSD is probably the issue; it's not the physical device. When a drive isn't listed in the boot menu, it usually means the boot loader section is faulty. You may need to reinstall Windows.
Disks won't appear in the BOOT priority unless they're genuinely bootable with an operating system installed. You might attempt to clone an old SSD, but it could still fail to boot or function correctly if other modifications were made.
