I have a desktop computer and I'm connecting it without a cable. The fastest speed I see is 20mbps when nothing else is connected. I've tried various wireless adapters and PCIe cards but nothing helps. The main problem is that as soon as another device joins the network, my connection drops to less than 1 mbps, which isn't usable. I also face frequent disconnections. If I could achieve at least 10mbps with my desktop when others are online, I wouldn't be complaining. I know I could use an Ethernet cable, but my younger brothers often disconnect it from the router, which is really frustrating. My MacBook Air gives me 40mbps wirelessly, yet my internet speed is so slow over Wi-Fi. What should I do?

I understand you're dealing with Wi-Fi problems, but the signal might be the real issue. Consider using a powerline adapter for improved performance. Unless your home wiring is extremely poor, this should work well.
