I checked a similar item on eBay in my country and found a good price for an RTX 3070 at $350. I purchased it two days ago and installed it quickly. After some gaming sessions and stress tests, I noticed performance issues across different games. In Valorant I achieved around 165 FPS without any drops, but in Fortnite the numbers were lower—just over 100 FPS with frequent frame drops (sometimes below 40). Running FurMark showed stable performance with no artifacts or crashes. Overall, it seems my GPU might be struggling, possibly due to CPU limitations or a GPU problem. My current setup includes: Palit GamingPro RTX 3070 OC, Ryzen 5 2600, 32GB 3200MHz (set to 2666MHz), G.Skill Ripjaws V, 600W PSU (brand not remembered), Gigabyte 450M DS3H, and a 1TB Samsung EVO M.2 SSD. Before the RTX 3070 I used a GTX 1660, which gave me about 120 FPS in Valorant and 60 in Fortnite, both with significant drops.
Ryzen and memory/processor speed play a major role in its performance, particularly during the early releases. The Ryzen fabric is closely linked to RAM speed; slower RAM leads to slower fabric, which in turn reduces CPU efficiency and diminishes gaming results. Several factors can restrict the RTX3070, including these connections, as seen with your GTX1060 likely being bottlenecked by RAM/fabric issues. The main point is that achieving XMP 3200Mhz would significantly boost your current setup—not just speed, but also timing. Stock RAM at 2666Mhz without XMP will struggle to perform optimally under the board’s original timings, especially after boot-up and memory initialization. Many reviewers have documented slower RAM on Ryzen and faster RAM on Ryzen, so keep this in mind if you’re interested. Proper balance between CPU and RAM/fabric speeds can greatly lower frame rates, making performance even more constrained.
The issue seems more about the CPU's generation rather than just the RAM itself. Upgrading to a 3600 or higher processor could make a difference, likely improving both CPU performance and RAM speed as controllers advanced. If your system uses 2x16GB of RAM that’s similar in age to other components, it probably runs at dual-rank mode, which adds extra demand on the memory controller.
It's confusing why they still mix Intel/nVidia and AMD when they're competing and making system-specific parts that don't work together. You got a solid AMD CPU and card, not a cheap nVidia that's overhyped and expensive. But the biggest thing that catches my eye is wanting to use brand new hardware with an old PSU. A 600W unit is really outdated for today. When you install power supplies, you usually add 2x to 3x the wattage to cover peak demand. For those who think 165fps is bad, it's hard to explain anything clearly.
3600 works perfectly with a 3070, but the 2600 has a few notes to watch. In Europe, a 5600 looks significantly more affordable compared to a 3600, making it a potentially better upgrade option if available.
Well...the 3600 isn't sufficient for my 3060 across all games. Games with heavy CPU usage, such as BF2042 (because of the large player count), can expose a minor bottleneck. My 3060 would only run at about 90%, which is worse than expected for the 3070. I don’t play those titles anymore, so it doesn’t affect me much. Most of the games I enjoy run smoothly without any issues. Just wanted to mention that it’s pretty close. Overall, I’d recommend going for the 5600 instead, mainly because of the great deals available.
there are definitely some games that struggle with the CPU, such as msfs, but most titles run smoothly overall. warzone was almost there, though not that demanding—typically around 150-190fps at 1080p, and 1440p didn’t noticeably lag, maxing out near 160fps. honestly, a 5600 would definitely help.
