Laptop: DELL Inspiron 14 2-in-1 7430 CPU: Intel Core i7-13000u CPU: Intel Iris® Xe Graphics RAM: 16GB 4800mhz OS: Windows 11 Home BIOS Update: Updated about 10 hours ago from the time I posted. Software that ran when it crashed: Chrome (a warning appears stating Chrome didn't shut down properly), plus others. About a week back, I purchased a brand-new DELL Inspiron 14 2-in-1. Everything seemed fine and I enjoyed the upgrade greatly. But soon I noticed an issue: after being put to sleep for 30–60 minutes, the laptop would unexpectedly shut down or crash, closing all browser windows and tabs. Initially, I thought it was due to misconfigured Power Options or Power Plan settings. All time values were normal and each power button setting was set to sleep. The problem wasn’t caused by those settings. I received remote help from DELL support. The only change in Advanced Power Settings was adjusting the SSD inactivity timeout from 1 minute to 2000 minutes. DELL staff updated drivers, BIOS, and ran diagnostics—no issues found. After testing fixes, the laptop still crashes or shuts down after a short sleep period. This could seriously affect work, risking data loss. I’m considering returning it under the 30-day policy. It’s my first forum post, so I hope I didn’t make any mistakes! Thanks ahead!

You might have observed a reduced battery level once the system powered down, or it could remain near full capacity.

You were correct about resolving the problem! Return to the advanced power plan settings, increase sleep duration again, and also enable hibernate. Keep hybrid-sleep active. This saves information during sleep and maintains memory usage. If the PC loses power, it will restart from the hibernate file. To further address your issue, set the hibernate timer to never, even when just putting it to sleep—it might auto-hibernate based on current settings. I have a laptop configured to hibernate after three hours of sleep. Please share another image, and confirm that all plus signs are expanded in the sleep menu. Tips: Raise the processor minimum to 0%, monitor idle CPU frequency via Task Manager before and after to track changes. On battery power, lower hard disk spin-down time to about 20 minutes or less to conserve energy. This can also safeguard data if you accidentally drop the laptop while it's idle.
