Yesterday I changed my BIOS before going to sleep. When I turned on my PC today, it wouldn’t boot. The MB LED showed orange (RAM). As soon as I removed one stick, the PC started working again. Was this just a coincidence, or did the BIOS update somehow damage one of my RAM sticks?

It's highly improbable the tool caused the damage. It might have adjusted precision settings. I'd likely spin the non-working stick in alternate positions to test compatibility.

placing that stick into the slot with the boot option works, but only if it’s compatible. If not, check your BIOS version and consider downgrading or reinstalling it. It’s possible the update damaged one of the slots temporarily, or there’s a conflict between RAM settings and the BIOS. Once you get the stick in the RAM slot, run a memory test if the BIOS reset fails.

Noted problems with DDR5 memory setup during startup. Reset CMOS and allow the motherboard to discharge before powering up again. This forces the system to complete the full POST process, which can take about a minute—especially noticeable in Ryzen systems.

The effective one fits anywhere. The ineffective one doesn’t fit at all.

This situation is really bizarre. If the stick is broken, then it’s gone. There’s a slight possibility that repositioning the CPU—while you have it removed—might help, but we’re still at an early stage with DDR5 tech and these issues keep popping up.

I experienced the same issue recently with my ASUS ROG STRIX B550F and CORSAIR Vengeance DDR4. The post will include one stick, while the other appears to be damaged and halting further updates. The orange VRAM LED on the MB is now visible. Did you manage to file an RMA?
