Issue with quad channel memory
Issue with quad channel memory
Hello everyone! I just switched my RAM from 16GB to 32GB, but it seems to be having issues. I ran memory tests a few times and everything worked in each slot, but the only problem happens when all four slots are filled. I’m not sure what’s causing this. Any advice would be really appreciated. P.S. My setup includes a Ryzen 5 3600, 8GB RAM, HyperX, 3200MHz, MSI MagMatte, Radeon RX 570, and a 500W PSU. Thanks! Chris
Have you considered reducing the speed to 3000 or 2933 MHz when 4 slots are used? Alternatively, turn off Docp/xmp entirely and test with a RAM speed of 2133.
The new RAM differs from the previous model. That feels quite similar. Also, using four sticks rather than two increases stress on your memory controller. I understand @Origami Cactus' point—it adds more pressure, so you might need to reduce speeds. It's frustrating, but that's why dual-stick configurations are still popular today. The memory control is managed by the CPU.
The mainboard likely features the B550M chipset. It accommodates dual-channel RAM, though not quad, and has four slots. According to the guide on page 4 (PDF page 18), you should be able to use a 3200 MHz clock speed without XMP support.
Thanks for your prompt messages. I've disabled XMP and set the speed to 2133Mhz. It appears to be functioning well without any issues. Appreciate your support! However, I might need to purchase a new motherboard.
