Hey, I've been having trouble with the new Paradox Hearts of Iron 4 version you're playing. Despite having a decent build and a powerful setup (fx-8350, Radeon R9 290X, 12GB RAM with latest drivers), I'm seeing very low FPS—sometimes around 10 on the full map. I've checked lowering the video settings, but it only improved things by a few frames. Any tips or suggestions would be really helpful. Thanks!

It puts a lot of strain on the CPU compared to the GPU, which could indicate an issue with your FX-8350. Consider lowering the speed, even though it might not be ideal.

It seems many people feel the game puts more strain on the CPU. The FX 8350’s power is spread across several cores, which can cause performance issues if not managed properly. The suggestion to run the game at a lower speed is likely aimed at reducing CPU load and improving stability.

Paradox games demand significant CPU power. Consider attempting a speed boost, though it may offer limited improvement. Running at a reduced pace typically adjusts the in-game time settings.

Yeah, my CPU is a bit overclocked, and I sometimes notice some lag when I move around during high-speed gameplay.

I haven't tried HoI4 yet, but even a late-game Stellaris, CK2 or EU4 can occasionally demand a break from my heavily overclocked 4770k.

After some time, I realized what he was trying to say. The main issue is the heavy lag when I zoomed out, even when paused at the beginning of the game. This suggests there could be another problem besides just the game being CPU-heavy.

Most Paradox titles built with the clausewitz engine face similar performance problems. It seems they haven't implemented multi-core or threaded capabilities, which likely contributes to the lag experienced in these games.

System operates smoothly without delays. AMD K860 BE paired with GPU R9 290 2GB, 8GB RAM 2400 CL 14, Asrock fm2a68m-hd+ OS on Windows 10. Crimson Driver installed. Windows 10 (latest) uses default drivers, minimizing energy consumption. HOI4, Stellaris achieves maximum display performance with no issues. Total War Attila runs at optimal speed, CPU at 4.1 GHz.
