Issue with PCI-E port 1, GPU only supports 4x in the second slot. Find a way to enable 8x functionality.
Hi everyone, I wanted to share what happened. A while ago, I accidentally broke my top PCI-E slot while moving things around. I didn’t take out the GPU because I was in a hurry and didn’t have time. The slot isn’t completely unusable—if I put the GPU inside, it still functions, though it shows up blue or runs at a very low frame rate (around 4fps) with some glitches. It’s hard to tell if this is fixable. For now, I’ve installed an SSD via PCI-E and kept another USB hub in a different slot. My RTX 4070 Super is in the lower x16 lane but only pinned for x8. According to GPU-Z, it’s only running at x4, which means games are still playable but performance is noticeably reduced. I tried adjusting the BIOS settings to set PCI_E1 to x8, but it didn’t work. Anyone have suggestions on what might be causing this? I know I’ll need a new motherboard eventually, but for now it’s frustrating. Thanks for your help!
It also connects through the chipset, meaning your GPU is using the same bandwidth as other components such as USB, network cards, audio, and more.
