Issue with PC restarting repeatedly during Windows 10 installation from a USB drive?
My PC displayed a blue screen last week. The error appeared instantly, and I became trapped in the automatic repair process. After some trials, I suspect the hard drive failed (it has Windows 10 installed). I ran tests with a USB adapter, but no service provided details—only detection was confirmed. I also encountered the 0xc00000e error.
I have a solid-state drive and plan to install Windows on it. I possess a USB stick containing Windows 10 (downloaded from Microsoft). However, installation is proving problematic. The USB is recognized but when booting, the Asus or Windows logo appears, followed by a spinning circle for a few seconds, then a red line flashes across the screen and the PC restarts repeatedly. I've adjusted the BIOS settings and removed the GPU, yet nothing resolves the issue.
If anyone has any advice, it would be extremely helpful.
I've got a usb with windows 10 on it (downloaded from Microsoft).
Recreate the bootable USB installer in order to rule out a corruption with your installer.
EVGA 500W Power Supply
How old is your PSU?
ASUS H81M-PLUS
+
Intel Core i7-8700 Processor
The processor can't drop into that motherboard's socket since the socket is incompatible;

Either you got the processor's model wrong or the wrong motherboard.
What BIOS version are you on for your motherboard at this moment of time? Disable CSM, Fast Boot and Secure Boot in BIOS and then select USB installer from boot override menu in BIOS.
Sorry got to cpu mixed up - it's a 4th gen i7. Don't have the exact name to hand right now but the PC worked fine before this issue.
And I have tried those BIOS settings. I'll send the bios version tomorrow - do you think updating it could help?
I've updated the specs in the original post.
Also, I tried putting windows 11 on the usb. When I insert the usb and boot from it, the PC shows the windows 11 logo, the circular spinner appears from 3ish seconds, then screen goes blank and the PC reboots.
Not sure if relevant but the SSD does have stuff on it but there's definitely space.
I've also tried unplugging SSD and the other drives (DVD player) and exactly the same.
I linked my SSD to the laptop and noticed Windows boot files there. It seems I might have used both the hard drive and the SSD, even though the SSD uses an MBR and not UEFI. Should I need to convert the SSD?
