Issue with Pc not meeting anticipated frame rate
I own a new pc featuring an i7 12700k, 7900xtx and 32 gb ddr4. In games such as FortKite I achieve 180 on low settings. Benchmarks on YouTube with similar hardware reach 220 fps at epic settings. Overwok also performs well, though not dramatically better. On ultra settings I get around 360 fps and others hit 450. My typical GPU usage is about 60 for FortKite and 80 for Overwok. It's unclear if this is the problem. If it is, how could I resolve it?
This is outside my area of expertise, but please post more details of your system specs, if you want useful replies.
In particular, I'd be curious about your DDR4 frequency, what kind of CPU cooler you're using, and what your CPU temps are, in gaming.
Also, potentially motherboard model and any BIOS settings you changed.
Have you checked if your chipset and system drivers are current? Which monitor and res do you use for gaming? A BIOS update might be worthwhile right now. What power plan are you employing?
I'll attempt to refresh my drivers and bios. My setup includes a 144hz monitor at 1440p with a high performance power plan. EDIT: Graphics and processor drivers were all recently updated prior to this. The BIOS was also refreshed about a month ago, so it should be up-to-date.
My CPU temperatures are normal, typically around 50 when playing. The GPU temperatures, though, are significantly higher. When I increase the PC load, it reaches 60 and then spikes to 90-108°C during hotspots. Interestingly, the hotspot temperature only goes up to 100°C or more when stationary in-game, but around 90°C when moving. I plan to increase the GPU fan speed starting at 60°C and setting it to 70 percent.
I hope this helps someone. Besides tweaking your GPU fan settings, there’s probably nothing else clear about it. Maybe some people try undervolting.
Other ideas I’m considering involve software tools. Have you come across a program named process lasso? It can limit games to use only the P-cores. You could even turn off the E-cores in BIOS, which might speed up the ring bus. The best method might depend on the game you’re playing.
