Issue with PC freezing during gameplay
Hello
I'm not very experienced with PCs. I've assembled two before, and the first one has no problems at all. The current model is causing some difficulties. I encounter crashes occasionally while playing different games. When I restart the same game repeatedly, it works perfectly without issues. The last crash happened four days ago after updating drivers and installing the latest Windows version, which seemed to help. Recently, I began using a completely new game, which ran smoothly for about 10 to 15 minutes before it crashed again. The PC will display a black screen, but the fans continue to spin (the LED fans don't shut off). Event viewer indicates Event 41, Kernel-Power, Task Category 63. BugcheckCode, SleepInProgress, PowerButtonTimestamp, and BootAppStatus are all zero. I'm puzzled as to why it functions well on some days and crashes on others. Memtest86 reported no errors.

What BIOS version applies to your motherboard? What speeds do you notice when the problem appears?
Power Supply Unit: EVGA 650GT
How much older is your PSU? Consider finding a compatible donor PSU with better wattage and see if it fixes the issue.
PSU I haven't used it before, but that's what I suspect the problem is. I plan to purchase an 850W one and test it out. Need to find a source first. It might be possible to get one from someone. The main issue is the crashes are unpredictable, possibly taking up to four days before another crash occurs (which happened today).
BIOS version is P.50 1.2.0 (dated 6/27/2023)
GPU temperatures stay below 50 and CPU temps only exceed 70 when under load.
I just had another crash after a short period of stability. Temperatures were within normal ranges. The highest CPU temperature reached 78, the CCD #0 hit 83.8, and the GPU peaked at 86.
found this information. I thought it might be related to the driver initially, but you mentioned you updated the drivers. Have you updated the BIOS to the latest version? Are all Windows updates current? Do the motherboard chipset drivers match those from the manufacturer's website? https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...-t...965ae97077 most people react negatively. However, I use a program called "iobit-driver booster." I install the free version to update all drivers and then uninstall it. Over the past 6-7 years, it has been about 99.9% accurate with driver packs.
I will review everything carefully. I just set up a Corsair MN850e for a PSU. After installing it, I removed the previous PSU and found that the old one was inside an unopened box. When I took it out, I discovered it was actually the WRONG PSU—a EVGA 550 G3, 100W, which was what I thought I had. If the problems continue, I intend to try the approach you suggested, but since the PSU in question was a 550 and not the 650 it should have been, I suspect this was my mistake. I’m completely confused about how I overlooked the 550, especially since the box was sealed. I’ll keep updating this thread as the situation develops.
