I own an RTX 2060 with 6GB of memory. To optimize its performance, I installed a lower-end GPU I've owned for several years, the GT 1030 2GB (GDDR5, slightly faster than the previous model).
I adjusted Windows settings to direct the GPU to use the first PCIe slot for intensive applications and kept it idle with zero VRAM and zero usage when not in use. The second GPU remains visible only for basic tasks like displaying the desktop, browser, or YouTube. However, when I connect the second GPU via HDMI after turning on the PC, it simply shows a black screen with no MOBO logo or any output.
My approach involves booting from HDMI using the main GPU first, then switching to the second GPU. After that, I open Task Manager and terminate all processes relying on the main GPU. This method functions correctly.
My PSU is a Corsair CX 600 (600W). Given the RTX 2060 6GB and the GT 1030 2GB, it seems the issue might lie elsewhere. I’m uncertain if the MOBO fails to boot when the main VGA slot isn’t connected to a video cable. The MOBO is a B450 AORUS M.
I think there might be a driver conflict. It seems unnecessary to include the 1030. I suggest deleting it.
Using the 1030 on the second slot allows full utilization of the 2060 VRAM, letting me concentrate on one program at a time, such as a game. When the 2060 is the primary GPU, Windows allocates a minimum of 1GB for other applications. I tried several games and they successfully loaded 6GB of VRAM on the GPU.
