My computer sometimes freezes at the shutdown screen, requiring a hard reset by holding the power button. This seems to occur intermittently—possibly three times so far. The RGB display stays active during these freezes, which might matter. There was another freeze when launching a game via Steam, and I had to restart it the same way, but only once before. The problem isn't consistent; most shutdowns work fine otherwise. Things I've attempted: updated BIOS, disabled fast startup, ran DDU clean and rolled back GPU drivers, executed SFC scan and checked disk in Command Prompt, installed Windows updates, ensured hardware isn’t overheating, reset RAM and turned off Expo in BIOS, ran MemTest86 overnight with no errors, and verified loose power cables. Please let me know if I missed anything. Thank you for your help!

Run the test again using Prime95 (settings from the thread) plus Furmark and HWiNFO 7.0 with logging at 50 ms. I'll review the log file. Perhaps I'll notice something...

Keep Task Manager active while attempting replication to observe any surging background processes affecting resources.

I executed the test exactly as instructed using the custom Prime95 configurations and HWiNFO 7. It didn't recognize a Ryzen processor, showing an Intel Pentium instead. The session lasted one hour; CPU reached its maximum of 94°C before dropping to about 92°C at 5.2GHz for the remainder. GPU performance peaked at 70°C with Furmark at 4K. No crashes or freezes occurred. I had to compress the file since it exceeded the 20MB limit. Please let me know if you notice anything interesting—I appreciate your assistance! Thanks. I'll try again and keep an eye out. log.zip

To get a deeper understanding, examine the Event Viewer for any processes or drivers that remain active when the system shuts down.

I looked into the event viewer, but it no longer displays the freeze time. After running Windows Repair, it seems the event log was removed. I’ll see if it works again. Is this connected to the software? Are there other steps you can take to check for hardware problems?

You may also want to check for SSD firmware updates. Your log file might lack sufficient sensor data, which could be the cause. If HWiNFO version 7.0 doesn’t detect anything, it’s possible the sensors aren’t activated. Your motherboard might not support them. We noted no freeze or BSODs, which is a positive sign—no data to investigate further. It’s tough to pinpoint the exact trigger for the freeze during shutdown. @Bjoolz could assist; he mentioned a tool that may work better than Event Viewer, though I’m unfamiliar with it. If updating the SSD firmware doesn’t resolve the issue, he might be the one to help. Your problem seems software-related rather than hardware.

If you have RGB enabled, try disabling it and see if it improves things. Continue testing step by step.

He suggests using a monitoring tool like SW to track your PC; if you don’t join the discussion, consider reaching out to him. Restart your PC after making changes to apply them.

I can review it, though I want to note it's not a tool of mine. It was created for the r/TechSupport community, mainly via Discord. I don’t code myself (can’t code), but I assisted in locating Windows commands for data retrieval and identifying what we need to input into the tool. My involvement accounts for less than 1% of the overall work.

I agree it’s the software that might be the problem, especially since a hardware issue would likely cause crashes during games or stress tests. So far it hasn’t failed. My SSD is running the latest firmware version as recommended by Samsung Magician. It seems the new version (Gen 5) hasn’t been released yet. I applied the registry changes you suggested, and currently there’s no freezing—though it still happens randomly when shutting down, except once during a game run. I’m not sure which app is running at the time but will let you know if it works.
