Hey everyone, I just acquired some new components but they’re not functioning as expected. The system model is MB: Asus ROG Crosshair Hero VIII Wi-Fi CPU, AMD 5900X RAM, G.Skill Ripjaws (2x32GB, 4000MHz CL18), and a Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 1000W power supply. The main issue is instability in BIOS setup and D.O.C.P loading. I only managed to boot twice out of at least 20 attempts. I reduced the RAM speed from 4000MHz to 3800MHz and adjusted the FCLK to 1900MHz. There are so many overclocking settings available that I’m unsure how to proceed to meet the specifications. Any expert advice would be greatly appreciated! How can I get this thing to run smoothly and safely? Thanks ahead!

For the simplest approach, turn on PBO and stop working further. To address the issue directly, disable your XMP profile, run the memory at stock settings, then attempt your DOCP profile ensuring stability first. Once confirmed, proceed with the memory overclock. Avoid trying to overclock everything simultaneously, as it hinders troubleshooting. Adjust one setting at a time.

Even though your system supports a 4000mhz memory clock, you’d probably lose the Fclk to Mclk 1:1 ratio needed for it. This means it’s not a simple, automatic setup. Today it isn’t working for you. You might want to give it a shot: activate the DOCP/XMP profile. Look at the SPD section in BIOS and adjust the timings manually. Set the memory voltage to match the XMP rating (around 1.4v). Adjust the CPU SOC voltage to 1.180v—start there and adjust if needed. If your memory has an odd number, turn off the "Gear Down mode" and Power Down feature; this stops voltage throttling. Manually configure the memory and fabric voltage at 3800mhz. For higher speeds, keep the Fabric Multi at 3800mhz. If you push past that, the interface might reset itself. Still, follow the same steps above, just raise the memory frequency slowly. This helps the board and IMC adapt to higher speeds. If it still doesn’t reach 3800mhz, try 3600mhz with DOCP/XMP enabled. Then gradually increase again, always testing one step at a time. Keep the CPU voltage stable as a precaution. For more guidance, screenshots of the CPU-Z memory section and SPD settings would be very useful.

Did you anticipate a 2x32GB at 4000MHz fitting perfectly without any issues? It would be unlikely to find many suitable kits on the QVL. The only Samsung B-Die 32GB options I discovered were 3 G.Skill kits (up to 3200) and 2 Zadak kits (up to 3600). Initially, check if you adjusted the ERP settings to allow extra C states. Some users do this to disable certain ASUS onboard RGB after shutdown, which can lead to problems during post-mortem when the system is near failure. The proper method is to use the RGB tool. Are you sure your memory is listed on the QVL for your mainboard? Next, consider boosting the DRAM voltage to 1.4, slightly increasing the SoC voltage, and reducing the clock speed further. You might also use the Ryzen memory calculator (especially for Zen2 values, they should work with Zen3) and Thaiphoon burner to gather details about your memory—including type, manufacturer, and timing in ns. Use this data with the calculator for better results.

DDR4-4000 offers a strong performance boost but isn't foolproof at those speeds. The CPU's Memory Controller might struggle with such a high load, especially with the DOCP/XMP settings. Lowering it to DDR4-3800 seems safer and works reliably, which supports your idea. AMD only backs up to DDR4-3200, so anything higher would need IMC overclocking. Remember, results can differ based on your setup.

I understand. I'm going to give it a shot, if possible. Even if there isn't a direct solution, I want to confirm I've done everything I can. The issue with the D.O.C.P not working doesn't rule out manual adjustments. As I mentioned, I was able to start despite low and high settings like 4000/2000, 3900/1950, and even a higher value (3800/1900), though they all had instability—sometimes it boots, sometimes it freezes. Using 3800/1900 with other standard D.O.C.P settings is performing well. I haven't stress tested the memory much, but I've tried everything I'll need with these configurations. The next step would be to stress test it under the current settings and explore some of the previous suggestions. What I'm seeing isn't entirely beginner-friendly, which is exactly what I need, but I'll probably have to dig deeper.
