Issue with my Gigabyte H470I AORUS Pro AX following the F22 BIOS upgrade
My machine ran smoothly on Windows 10, yet every time I powered it up I saw the POST display. As I prepared to switch to Windows 11, I decided to install BIOS updates first. A huge mistake! I saved the F22 BIOS onto a USB stick and restarted. In BIOS I chose Q-Flash, navigated to my F22 file, applied changes, and the PC rebooted. During startup, my screen kept showing 'no signal, check cable.' I pondered... it was strange—I hadn't seen the POST like before. I was about to disconnect the power supply, thinking the system was dead, but then the Windows 10 interface appeared. I restarted again and still received 'no signal, check cable,' only for the desktop to load. Eventually, I connected my Windows 11 drive and tried rebooting, but nothing changed. I didn't notice anything unusual and plugged in the USB stick to install Windows 11. Despite following all steps, the POST screen persisted. I restarted once more, pressed DEL, but no improvement. I attempted to reset CMOS by shorting pins, followed instructions, and powered back up—still no change. Later, I removed the board, took off the plastic cover over the CMOS cell, disconnected the cable, and left it exposed for a few minutes before reassembling everything. The display still showed 'no signal, check cable' for 15–20 seconds before the Windows 10 screen appeared. It seems Gigabyte has locked me out of BIOS settings after the upgrade. HOW CAN I FIX THIS? I tried booting into the troubleshooting mode to adjust UEFI BIOS, but when I clicked 'Restart,' the PC would reboot and still show the same error. Even with Windows, accessing BIOS from within was problematic—no video output until the desktop loaded. I didn’t use a dedicated graphics card; my system relied on integrated graphics. I made sure 'fastboot' was off in Windows, which it was. The Fastboot Gigabyte tool was installed but marked as disabled. When I opened it and selected the USB drive as boot device, I received an error about applying the latest version. I was limited to clicking 'OK,' which exited without success. If Gigabyte ever releases a fix for F22, I’d have to use their Q-Flash update method, but I have no confidence it will work. Going back to an older BIOS version isn’t an option because this F22 release addresses a critical security flaw and introduces a 'capsule' mode that blocks any future BIOS access. I’m extremely frustrated with the manufacturer. If this issue persists and I can’t resolve it, I’ll switch to a different motherboard from another brand and avoid them in the future. I also tried installing Windows 11 on a different SSD and then switching it into the Gigabyte system, but I suspect it would have hit a similar error screen. The USB installation worked fine until the POST screen reappeared.
The color you selected matches the dark mode background, making your text hard to read without emphasis. It would be better to revert to the standard font color. Regarding your issue, if your board includes a Q-flash button and a rear USB port, try reinstalling F22 using the manual flash back button and observe if it resolves the problem. During the CMOS reset, did you simply take off the battery cover or also remove the battery? If the battery wasn’t taken out, the reset won’t work properly.
Collect all the text then press the small button at the top with the red square. If you don’t, here’s what dark theme users see: And because you’re likely asking for assistance, it’s best to simplify things.
I'm really sorry about the formatting issues. Let me try again. I plan to reinstall F22. For clearing the CMOS, I removed the red/black cable from the battery to the motherboard. I discovered a new mini-ITX board on Amazon and have nine hours before placing my order for next-day delivery. lol... If I can't get it working soon, I'll fix it by swapping the board.
I saved the F22 BIOS onto a FAT16 thumb drive and checked the instructions for the correct port and timing for the Q-Flash Plus button. The device isn’t responding as expected, with no USB activity or LED indication when I press the button. I’m looking into a backup BIOS method, unsure if my board supports dual BIOS options. If that doesn’t work, I might have to buy a new motherboard. Update: I gave up trying to boot from a backup chip and am considering switching to an ASUS board instead of any Gigabyte products going forward. My display ports are unresponsive, and even the RTX 2070 won’t show anything until the Windows desktop loads. It seems I’m stuck in the BIOS without access.
From what I understand, you need to press the button for at least five seconds before releasing it; otherwise, the light won’t turn on. The manual mentions changing the bios update file name according to its instructions—it can’t just be the raw filename. If you haven’t renamed the update file or configured it properly in the root folder of a Fat32-formatted USB drive, you’re doing it incorrectly.
Check the correct port and confirm the exact name of the BIOS file you're referring to.
I was relying on a USB 3.0 thumb drive but didn’t have any backup. I changed to a USB 2.0 version and it functioned. However, after re-flashing and restarting, the system still didn’t display the POST screen—just black, then suddenly the Windows desktop appeared.
