Issue with my bios not detecting a bootable drive following the installation of a new CPU cooler.
I put in a new CPU cooler along with fresh stands for the motherboard, which meant I had to remove everything and reassemble it. Now, despite everything appearing connected and functioning—BIOS recognizes the drives, fans spin, LEDs illuminate, all RAM modules are detected, the CPU is present, the memory status is orange, the GPU red, VGA white, and finally booting green—I’m not sure about the exact colors before, but it doesn’t seem like an error—I don’t recall any issues—I’ve tried disconnecting the SATA cables, trying different combinations and ports, and only running Windows on the HDD—but nothing works. I’ve updated the BIOS, but still nothing. I’m running out of options and need assistance.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
Motherboard: Asus tuf gaming b550-plus WiFi II
RAM: 4x8GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LXP
GPU: GTX 1660 Ti
Operating System: Windows on a 1TB HDD (storage left around 20GB, not ideal)
I ran an infodump of everything I could because I was really worried.
Edit: When I took out the old cooler, the CPU popped out with it because the old thermal paste had turned into glue. After separating it, I saw a couple of pins slightly bent, but it still fit. Once I powered everything on for the first time, even though it was the old CPU, the BIOS treated it like a new one and said “new CPU installed!” However, the BIOS didn’t recognize the HDD as bootable since it sees Windows and thought it was new.
Edit2: My PSU is delivering 650W (I think that’s sufficient but I’m not sure anymore).
The solution was found by adjusting the CSM settings to use the legacy version.
