I've tried to learn overclocking by watching YouTube tutorials about using MSI's Afterburner, but it doesn't allow me to adjust settings like fan speeds. What's going on?

Occasionally the issue arises from a damaged or improperly installed Afterburner. Remove it, reinstall Afterburner, and if that fails, attempt using EVGA Precision.

Occasionally there are several steps to complete after using afterburner. In the past I had to modify text files and registry settings to fully unlock all adjustable parameters. I would consult the official afterburner FAQs on Guru3D. The software's creator, Unwinder, is also available to address more advanced queries, though he dislikes when people ask simple questions without reading the manuals.

I removed afterburner and reinstalled it but it doesn't work properly, so I downloaded precision and it won't open either. I'm unsure how to proceed now.

Have you experimented with running EVGA Precision using executive privilege or as an administrator? Navigate to the EVGA directory that holds the precisionx_64 file, right-click it, then select properties. Move to the compatibility section and ensure the option to run the program as administrator is checked.

MSI packages have minor variations; I’m not using them. To enable installing as administrator in the context menu, right-click the Start button and choose Run from the command line. Locate the MSI .exe file and execute it with administrator privileges.

EDIT: I recently attempted to install Afterburner via the GURU3D website. The installation failed, displaying a corruption warning and indicating several files require updates. WT?

I visited: https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner
Selected the standard download (not the beta version) and it functioned properly.

I attempted to run with administrator privileges, but it only displays the logo without opening anything.

It seems your Windows is not functioning properly. I recommend backing up all your crucial files and considering a fresh installation. The main concern is figuring out how the system became damaged—possibly due to unstable clocks, likely related to memory. It's time to perform thorough stress tests on your platform.

Could it be the issue stems from the fact that I'm running on vega 8 instead of a suitable GPU?
