I made contact with the CPU fan connections on the motherboard using a screwdriver. Some smoke and a spark were released. You're concerned about the motherboard possibly being damaged, but you haven't completed the full build yet. Let me know if you need further guidance.

If there was smoke, something perished. What was lost and why does it matter for your system? I’m not sure. Be ready for some checks when you gather enough components to configure your machine.

The CPU being on the motherboard doesn’t always mean it died; it depends on the situation. If something failed, the CPU might still be functional. You may need to replace the motherboard if it’s not working properly.

I can't guarantee a definitive answer about what happened. It might have been the fan parts, the CPU, or both, but we simply don’t have enough information to be sure.
