Issue with minor stuttering on a brand-new PC that's hard to fix
Hey there, I’m really struggling to figure out what’s going wrong with this new PC. It seems like everything is supposed to be brand new except the case. Here are the specs: motherboard B450M PRO VDH-MAX, CPU RYZEN 5500 3.6 GHz base, boost 4.2 GHz RAM (2x KLEVV CRAS 8GB, 4000mHZ), power supply 650W, GPU GeForce RTX 3060 ti OC edition, storage setup includes 250GB NVMe (no DRAM), 250GB SATA SSD, and a 1TB HDD. I’ve tried reinstalling drivers, checking the disk, running repair tools on the SSD, and even swapping RAM and GPU, but the micro stuttering keeps happening. It started with the cursor in normal windows and then moved to games. After waiting weeks, the issue returned when I copied the drive from my old PC to this one—same hardware except a different motherboard and RAM. I also checked the BIOS to confirm the RAM was set to 3600MHz, but that didn’t help. I even adjusted the RAM voltage manually to 1.35V without fixing anything. No luck so far. Any suggestions or tips would be super helpful! Thanks a ton.
CPU speed and RAM frequency are different concepts. With a base of 3600MHz and a reported 3.6GHz on the CPU, you're curious about lowering RAM speed to 3200MHz. I remember seeing older Ryzen 2 and 3 models where memory clock and data rate matched perfectly at 1:1. This is just a thought, not a guaranteed fix for your problem.
Are you confirming the B450 MOBO setup is correct? It seems unusual that the RAM isn’t listed on the supported modules. I recall there was an issue with microstutter and polling rates for mice and keyboards back then—it shouldn’t exceed 500. That’s some old advice, but now it feels like we’re navigating without any guidance.
You've attempted a frequency of 3200MHz but received no response.
I became tired of the issue and changed my GPU and RAM to mine, which resolved the problem for about two days. Now it's happening again. Everything on my PC works normally, but I'm unsure what might be causing it. The only possibilities I have are a bad CPU or motherboard.
This seems unusual. Are you considering replacing or reinstalling the operating system on another drive or SSD instead of the one you're currently using?
I just reinstalled the OS and it stopped working for a day before resuming. I checked everything—chipset drivers, mouse polling rate, GPU drivers—but nothing seems off. The only thought is it might be related to MOBO or the CPU. I’ll just wait and see what happens.
