Issue with micro-stuttering on a brand new PC?
The page doesn't show Kingston's RAM as being suitable for the motherboard you're using, which supports speeds from 5600 to 6400.
Stuttering happens because a vital resource is temporarily missing, often the CPU.
Are you running multiple tasks at once?
Maybe high-priority apps are causing issues, like Discord or checking for updates.
Is your 120GB C drive close to full?
Around 90% capacity will begin to slow you down and reduce performance.
I possess 50gb of free space on my boot drive, which is intended solely for Windows files and not for anything else. While running any game, I use Discord and sometimes Chrome with a few tabs open. The CPU performance should not be affected, as my previous setup with a Ryzen 7 2700, which is significantly weaker than my i5, performed without issues. I have also tested playing games alone, with Discord and Chrome closed, but no noticeable difference was observed. Likely, the issue lies with the SA400 SSD, which I missed during testing and assumed was the source of the problem.
From what I have observed online, 6000mhz caused problems on this motherboard, but these issues were reportedly resolved through BIOS updates.
I experienced difficulties with 6000mhz XMP settings, which I think I resolved by setting the RAM to "Gear 2" mode. When XMP is at 5600mhz, it operates correctly without further adjustments. A day after sending my PC to a repair shop, I saw a BIOS update for my motherboard released in January that highlights memory compatibility improvements and Intel microcode updates—these should address the issue before returning it.
I plan to investigate what might be causing this problem and will consider swapping the RAM if the issue persists.
I also noticed my RAM modules aren’t listed in the link you provided, but you mentioned a range from 5600 to 6400—does that suggest everything between those values is functioning properly? Or is there more to it?
I’ve given up on this build. It seems to be cursed now. They sent it back, saying the stutters disappeared after changing the boot drive. The person even joked that my Razer mouse was the culprit (lmao), mentioning I had to fix my PC myself when they returned it after it froze. I swapped my old Kingston A400 for a new Samsung 970 EVO as a boot drive, removed the other generic Samsung NVMe drives, and kept my WD blue SATA SSD for gaming tests after reinstalling Windows. I even used my work laptop mouse during the reinstall just to avoid any Razer driver problems. After that, microstutters appeared and frame-pacing issues popped up too—my 75fps cap felt like 50 at random times despite having all drivers from the motherboard site and the latest BIOS (CMOS cleared after flashing). This 1080 worked on my old PC; I tested another GPU from a friend on my new build just to confirm, nothing. It looks like the issue is with the motherboard or possibly the i5-12600k.
Selling this POS mobo+CPU+ram combo, I’m planning to buy a decent AM4 board with a 5700X3D and call it a day.
