Issue with M.2 heat sync failure on Mag-Z690 Tomahawk motherboard
The heat sync shield for the M.2 drive looks detached from the motherboard, I wasn’t aware until I installed the SSD. I’m unsure what to do and would appreciate any advice. This is my first PC build, so I’m not sure how to proceed. Thanks for your help!
The locking screw appears to be slightly loose, but it can still be secured more firmly.
Can you take another photo please, I's really hard to tell what you mean. The M.2 heatsink has a foil underneath the thermal pad you need to peel and then it sticks on the M.2 SSD. Then you screw them both in. Usually they hover above the board by design. The M.2 connector pins must be flat in the connector and the heatsink level to know if it is ok.
Nothing is damaged at the moment. The standoff mount features two panels, with the damaged side on top that can be removed. Begin by loosening the heatsink again, then apply some tape and try to separate the components. If the bottom piece no longer fits on the board, you can find replacement standoffs online. Alternatively, simply secure the M.2 SSD with tape—it’s not aesthetically pleasing but functions effectively.
It seems like there are around four units available. I’ll likely place another order for a stand-off screw, but for now I might just proceed with that.
