Hey guys, I noticed that after playing Oblivion remastered for a long time (60-90 minutes), the FPS drops from over 100 to around 30. Since my CPU is running at high temps in the high 90s, it seems like thermal throttling might be the issue. I’ve only had this laptop since last March—it’s out of warranty. I’m wondering if it’s dust buildup or if the thermal paste needs replacing. I have thermal grizzy kryonaut, but it says it doesn’t handle temps above 80°C. Any thoughts on what could be causing this and what thermal paste would work best for cooling the CPU? My specs are: ASUS Tuf Gaming F15 2023, 12700h CPU, RTX 4070 GPU, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD.

Oblivion Remastered puts a lot of strain on the CPU. On my desktop setup, all eight cores are operating between 50 to 99% usage. I haven’t tested it on the laptop yet (13900HX), but it’s likely experiencing thermal throttling. Keep in mind that most gaming laptops don’t usually throttle the CPU unless there’s a thermal issue. I just increased the difficulty after taking a 16-hour break. Is it typical for the west woodland to be demanding on CPU and GPU? I’m seeing around 30 frames per second right away. Otherwise, I’m running the game at 2k settings. Also, the Oblivion gates (exiting) are affecting my FPS.
50-99% utilization across all 8 cores? What model are you running? My performance stays around 30%, usually between 20-25% during this game. It's less demanding than other moderately CPU-intensive titles such as Cyberpunk and Black Ops 6. I also use Lumens software, which puts more strain on the CPU. My temperatures never exceed 50°C. I'm not claiming it doesn't have thermal throttling, but Oblivion Remaster isn't as taxing as other games.
5800X3D, 8 cores with 16 threads. Think about it in terms of PER CORE, not all cores. The temps are solid, performance is impressive. It's UE5, which is famous for pushing cores hard, even after shaders are compiled. And OP is a laptop, at most it could reach around 75% of what a desktop can achieve.

I resolved the problem. With a combined approach using KLIM Tempest and FPS capped at 60, I'm observing temperatures between 68-75°C.
