I purchased this device but noticed it lacks a power switch. Should it remain active continuously? It overheats and emits a faint burnt plastic odor near the base.

That’s essentially the concept with networking gear: it’s always active. Beyond that, you purchase equipment promising speeds like 200Mbps, yet the connections only support 100Mbps ports.

What about the garbage? I assumed Keenetic modems were reliable.

I’m an American and haven’t heard of them before. @manikyath is correct—they only provide 100 Mbps Ethernet ports, which suggests the company cut corners. Although the modem inside can technically support 200 Mbps DSL, you’ll rarely exceed 100 Mbps on the Ethernet connection. That’s not ideal. You might want to consider a warranty replacement. There’s also a USB port, so you could test a laptop cooler. I used one of my routers that way back at the trade show because DDWRT caused it to overheat.

I considered it as well, though others on the discussion boards warned it could lead to excessive power usage and issues.

I only used a mobile phone charger to run the cooler.
