Hi everyone, I just switched my internet connection from 750 Mbps to 1 Gbps. The setup remains the same—ISP modem, then T-Link switch TL-SG1005D, followed by a D-link mesh router with a wired backhaul. Back when I had 750 Mbps, I was getting about 900 Mbps. After the upgrade, speeds dropped to roughly 350–400 Mbps, and sometimes even around 700 Mbps via Ethernet. I tested connecting my PS5 directly from the ISP modem through the switch, and it performed much faster than before. Is the switch affecting the performance? Also, my Ethernet connection from the PC to the switch is now only 310 Mbps, which is lower than what I experienced earlier.

No, I didn't restart the modem after the upgrade.

I did a test with the switch and the speed changed a lot—like between 50 and 105 Mbps when downloading on Steam. Now that I’m using a direct connection from the modem, everything runs smoothly and consistently. The switch works with gigabit speeds until the upgrade.

When stable is directly linked, it works without going through the switch, but fails otherwise. It might be worth considering a higher-quality Soho switch.

Here are some simple options for a new switch suitable for home use:
- Basic wall switch for lighting
- Single-pole switch for outlets
- Smart plug switch for electronics
- Toggle switch for door or light control
Let me know if you'd like more details on any of these!

Yes, the numbers you provided refer solely to download speeds. Upload and download rates are treated separately in this context.

I downloaded it right away. My ISP offers 1Gbps down and 300Mbps up, but all my devices work with gigabit speeds. I’m not sure why the connection isn’t functioning properly.

Modem comes before switch, then router. This order works unless your ISP has a combo device; otherwise, the sequence matters for proper connectivity.

It seems you're puzzled about the price jump from 750Mbit to Gigabit. The upgrade might have been based on your current needs or network demands rather than just speed alone.

I reside in the UAE and the internet performs well there... I've been on a 750Mbps plan for the past two years and consistently exceeded the speed tests. After my contract ended, I switched to a new plan, which made me think a 1Gbps upgrade would be a smart move given the current pricing from the ISP. I was anticipating speeds over 1000Mbps but found that wasn't realistic.
