Issue With High CPU Consumption and Heat While Using Microsoft Teams or Moving Files
Hi everyone,
I’m facing a performance problem with my CPU and would like some guidance. Whenever I join Microsoft Teams—even briefly—or when transferring files over the network (such as through file sharing on the job server), my CPU usage spikes significantly. This causes the temperature to rise rapidly, reaching about 75–80°C during the call or transfer. The fan runs at its maximum speed.
Here are some details about my system:
- CPU model: i9 14000HX
- Device: HP Omen Transcend 16
- Operating System: Windows 11
- RAM: 2x32GB at 5600 MHz
- Network: Wi-Fi or Ethernet works the same
Is this behavior typical, or is there an issue with my setup? Any advice on checking or resolving this would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!
HP omen transcend 16 What's the age of the laptop? It might be worth checking if the cooling solution requires servicing—swap out the thermal paste and clean the vents. By the way, have you looked for any pending BIOS updates for your laptop?
Is this action typical? Absolutely. Modern processors are built to handle temperatures around 100 Deg C without slowing down. You could try swapping the thermal paste and pads, raising the laptop slightly to let cooler air flow through the vents, and adjusting GPU settings by lowering the voltage or limiting power on the CPU.
