Issue with hibernation after Windows 10 1809 October update
My PC started the October update and I'm facing a problem I can't resolve. Even though I've set power options not to hibernate, it still powers down unexpectedly—like when I fell asleep around 9:30 PM and woke up at 1:15 AM. The internet didn't load, so I had to reset it using the reset button. This has happened twice in just two days. Someone experiencing a similar issue? Any tips or fixes?
It's your choice, not the system's decision. The official date for releasing the October Update was the ninth day before they postponed it. If hibernation remains active, your PC may fail to wake after long periods. This often points to a driver problem—possibly related to USB devices or other hardware connected. Ensure your BIOS/UEFI and chipset drivers are up to date. Begin by confirming hibernation isn't turned on: navigate through Settings → System → Power & Sleep → Advanced power settings → Change plan settings. Within, adjust Sleep settings and set Hibernate after to Never. For laptops, disable "Allow hybrid sleep" as well. Once done, run the command prompt as admin and type `powercfg -h off` to disable hibernation support. After restarting, revisit the sleep settings. To test GPU performance, remove the graphics card or use another card with installed drivers. If a specific USB device is the culprit, disable it via Device Manager—look for properties under power management to prevent sleep. Don't overlook the keyboard or mouse either.
