Issue with GPU functionality following a system restart on Dell Optiplex 7040.
I currently connect my AMD Radeon RX 6400 to the second PCIe slot on my Dell Optiplex 7040MT. It functions properly during initial Windows 10 startup via HDMI, but after a reboot it fails to send video to the GPU. When connected to the APU, video appears correctly. In the Dell BIOS, a "Video Controller" option is listed with three choices: Auto, Intel HD Graphics, and ATI Radeon HD Graphics. The system defaults to the onboard controller even when a GPU is present with an HDMI cable. Switching to ATI Radeon HD Graphics initially seems acceptable. After saving settings and restarting, video output disappears entirely. Using the onboard graphics also prevents display. No video appears whether the GPU is connected or the motherboard is powered on. The only solution appears to be removing the GPU from the motherboard, rebooting, and reconnecting everything. This process is frustrating and inefficient. Are there any possible fixes for this issue? Current build: Windows 10 x64 32GB DDR4 2133MHz Intel Core i7-6700 3.4GHz AMD Radeon RX 6400 WD 1TB SN570 Gen 3
Experienced with a comparable problem during startup using an RTX3060ti. Initially assumed the issue stemmed from the GPU being forced out of its slot, but later focused on the cable or HDMI port. The most recent occurrence (last day) involved a loose connection or unlatched port, which I resolved by securing the cable properly. The system started up normally afterward, but it appeared the HDMI port or cable was deteriorating, preventing video transmission. I’m ordering a replacement HDMI cable, though I suspect the problem lies with the port rather than the cable itself.
You're really puzzled here. It seems the HDMI cable might be the issue, but the port on your GPU could also be the problem. Since the cable worked fine before, it's possible the port isn't functioning properly. I'll try a new cable and let you know what happens. Thanks for the update!
Cable is definitely a simpler, more affordable solution, and it avoids the trouble. Particularly if you bring it to the machine or GPU for warranty service and they confirm everything is fine.
I was configuring my second monitor using a displayport, and I expected it to work. Initially, the GPU was sending output to displayport before HDMI. Throughout, I assumed there was a problem with my GPU or computer, but it was just outputting to displayport. Great that the issue was resolved! Thanks for your assistance!
