Issue with game freezing during specific play sessions on Windows 10.
Hello everyone! I've been trying to search through different threads about my issues, but nothing seems to work. About two weeks ago, I started experiencing random freezes in certain Steam games (not all of them). These freezes last around 2 to 5 seconds and are really annoying. When they happen, the CPU usage drops drastically, then returns to normal after the freeze. After a few days, Windows 10 slowed down a lot—like alt-tabbing became slow and browsing felt much heavier than usual. Games that previously ran at over 60 frames per second dropped to around 18 FPS. I also had two BSODs when I used alt-tab in some games. Since I couldn't find a fix, I did a clean install of Windows about three days ago, and things ran smoothly again. But today I'm facing the same freezing problem once more, and I think it might follow the same pattern.
My gaming PC is about three years old, so maybe it's getting old. I'm not sure which part of the hardware is causing the problem, but I'm still trying to figure it out.
PC Specs:
Operating system: Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
Motherboard: MSI B350 Gaming Plus
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-core 3.40 GHz (not overclocked in the past 3 years)
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060 6gb
SSD: Sandisk 500 GB
HD: Western Digital 1 TB
Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions—it would really help! I have no idea why this is happening, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It might be a PSU issue, but since you haven't listed the PSU, I'm here to assist with making and brand questions.
Sorry for the delayed response. That was definitely something I couldn't try and it seems likely to be the issue. The PSU I'm using is the EVGA 500 B1, a 80+ Bronze 500W power supply. My computer was constructed in the summer of 2017, around late July.
I'm also not entirely confident, it seems like the machine isn't very power-hungry.
