Hello everyone, I'm running Windows 98 SE inside a VM on VMware Workstation 12 Pro. I'm using it for some nostalgic 98 games and recently tried Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Everything worked fine until I opened the game and saw an error about needing Dx 7.0 or later. I already had Dx 9.0c installed, thinking it was too recent, but that didn't help. I also tried Dx 7 and Dx 8 without success. The Dx 7.0a version blocked the installation because it detected Dx 8. I'm wondering what else I should try. Thanks for your help!

I don’t have it right now, but you might need to activate a setting in the VM Machine configuration, such as enabling 3D support. You can check the recommended steps here: https://communities.vmware.com/thread/526352. To fix the issue, open the .vmx file (use Notepad), and modify or add these lines:

mks.enableD3DRenderer = TRUE
mks.enableDX11Renderer = FALSE
